Local Attractions

Lagun Sunset Resort is in the heart of Curaçao’s Natural Treasures.

Known for its stunning natural beauty and captivating landscapes, Bandabou is a haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. In this enchanting corner of the island, you’ll discover a treasure trove of local attractions that will leave you spellbound. From the majestic heights of Christoffel Mountain to the untamed beauty of Shete Boka and the serene charm of Hofi Mango, Bandabou offers a diverse range of experiences that celebrate the island’s rich natural heritage.

Hofi Mango

The beautiful historic Hofi Mango was set up as a plantation in 1707. In addition to mangoes, other crops were also grown, such as sugar cane. The traditional rum of Curaçao was distilled from this sugar cane. The sugar cane was pressed in a specially built sugar mill; a windmill after the Dutch model. This historic sugar mill is the only one in the Caribbean and is the eye-catcher of Hof Mango.

Via a beautifully landscaped walking route you wander through the shady forest, through the palm garden and several flower gardens. You may see the white-tailed deer or the wild pigs. The park is best viewed from the hill in the middle of the park. Here you have a beautiful view of the Christoffelberg.

Shete Boka

The Shete Boka National Park is an area adjoining the Christoffel Park covering almost 10 kilometers of the rocky wave- exposed north coast of the island. The park has approximately 10 pocket bays where 3 species of sea turtles are known to lay eggs.

The park begins at Boka Tabla, where huge waves thunder into an underground cavern. Steps cut into the rocks lead you directly into the mouth of the cavern; you can sit on the very edge and watch the surf roll in. After you peek inside the cavern you can walk along the limestone bluffs above for a spectacular view of Curacaos rugged north coast. The inlets in the park are protected turtle breeding areas.

Christoffel Park

The largest and most biodiverse park on the island! In the park, you can find stunning nature, the Christoffel Mountain, beautiful birds, the national white tailed deer, and wonderful hiking trails. We offer tours, guided hikes, and seasonal activities. Inside the park, you can find the Savonet Museum.

Nature lovers will find the park teeming with birds and plants. You will probably see species that are not easily seen elsewhere on the island! The park harbors a rich variety of local flora and fauna. An abundance of hiking trails to choose from! A relaxed stroll or a more advanced trail, there is something to do for everyone! Climbing the Christoffel Mountain is one of the most popular – and more advanced – hiking trails in the park.

Savonet

The Savonet Museum, which is housed in a 19th-century plantation house, tells you the story of the Savonet Plantation and the adjacent Savonet area.

The story begins with the first inhabitants of the area: the Arawak Indians, and goes on to the slavery period, the abolition of slavery, and the independence of Curaçao in 2010.

The main focus of the museum is the lives of the former slaves and later ‘workers’ of the Savonet Plantation, the lives of the owners, and the interaction between these two groups.

Vikto Bartholomeus

Museo Vikto Bartholomeus is located near Soto in the western part of the island. A museum dedicated to the local cultural icon, Vikto Bartholomeus. But it’s more than just a museum. It’s a Cultural, Culinary & Art Experience located on the site of Sir Vikto Bartholomeus’ former home. The open-air museum covers a wide range of topics, including the island’s culture, art, food, music, and provides valuable insight into the life, work, and legacy of Sir Vikto Bartholomeus.

It is also possible for groups, organizations, schools, and individuals to pre-book memorable cultural, hiking, culinary, and art experiences at the museum.
